Can I just tell you how much I love this couple? They seemed a little shy when I first met them. But they exuded awesomeness during their engagment session and started opening up just as we were finishing. Kerrianne is so gorgeous – she reminds me of Christie Brinkley in her modeling heyday. Pair that with Henry’s charming smile and wit and what do you get . . . and excited photographer! I cannot wait for their wedding in August! I LOVED their engagement session – magic!

Lindsay & Ken {Wedding at the Japanese Friendship Garden}

When my dear friends, Ken and Lindsay asked me to photograph their wedding, I couldn’t be more honored! Ken and I used to work together in the biotech industry, and ever since we’ve become good friends over the years. Gorgeous Lindsay waltzed into his life one day, and just lit up the place wherever he was. She is also so wonderful with Ken’s beautiful daughter Athena. We knew they were perfect for each other!

Their wedding was perfect. The amount of personalization that went into planning really made their day wonderfully intimate. I was excited about every detail of their wedding: Lindsay’s Vera Wang dress, the gorgeous flowers by Jennifer Cole Florals, the amazing cake by Sweet Cheeks, and the fantastic venues. After they fed each other cake, Lindsay gushed about how wonderful it tasted and asked me if I wanted to taste. Um, yes! How often do the bride and groom feed their photographer cake? score for me! haha!

I must admit though – I am incredibly jealous of their honeymoon trip. They will be traveling through Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Bali!

Congratulations, my friends! I wish you a fantastic journey together through life together.

Brooke + Cody {Nevada Maternity Photographer}

Congratulations to Brooke and Cody! If you remember my Best of 2011 Facebook contest, the Shriver family won a portrait session which they used to celebrate the lovely Brooke’s pregnancy.

Originally Brooke had wanted to have her session in California near the beach, but due to doctor’s orders she wasn’t allowed to travel for the session. So instead we headed out to Lake Las Vegas where I found an unused golf course and a natural beach. What a wonderful place for photos!!!

Baby Colton is slated to make his appearance on May 11, appropriately for Mother’s day weekend, but the family thinks he is much too eager to see the world sooner than that! Much love and congratulations to the entire family!

Wedding Coordinator Showcase – coming soon!

I’m so excited to be launching a new blog showcase piece called “Ask the Expert”! With this piece, Kristyn and I will be interviewing our favorite wedding coordinators to help make your planning easier.

From intimate weddings of 20-50 guests to the mega weddings of 500-750 guests, planning around and anticipating obstacles brings a lot of excitement and nervousness about how the day will unfold. It’s exciting to imagine carrying out all the planning and execution yourselves, however wedding planning sucks up a great amount of time. If you both work, have kiddos, or even get a little overwhelmed at family drama or unforeseen snags in the 11th hour while you are gluing centerpieces and labeling placecards, delegation of the bulk of the work will help you coast through your engagement period!

I’ve started to tell all my couples at their photography consults to invest in a coordinator – even if it’s only for the day of. Coordinators have experienced all kinds of weddings and can steer you in the right direction for your vision and budget, give you realistic tips and pointers to smooth out your schedule, refer you to a vendor that matches your style, and take the burden off your shoulders months before the wedding and especially on the day of. After all shouldn’t the bride and groom and their guests enjoy the day you’ve invested so much time and money towards? – it’s as simple as that!

As a photographer, I’m privy to a lot of the behind the scenes activity for each wedding. Although each wedding is unique in their own way, carrying out an event of this magnitude from scratch can involve excruciatingly detailed planning and I cannot stress enough how much a coordinator will help alleviate unnecessary stress from the day . . . from YOUR day!!

Introducing my new studio manager, Kristyn Kozar!

Please help me welcome Kristyn to MYP! She has worked with one of the premiere photographers in AZ, and also has worked in marketing and administration.

Kristyn is full of a wonderful spirit and energy and I’m sure you will all love her! Some of her favorite things to do are read a ton of books, cook up a gourmet storm, and travel! She dreams of going to Europe for months living in France, Italy, Spain and Greece to experience each country’s culture and language, owning her own house where she can start DIY home projects and grow her own veggies and flowers in her garden. She also is a major Grey’s Anatomy fan. We have so much in common, I knew we would be a great fit!

Most of you will get to know her during your session planning and ordering. Please feel free to ask her questions when you need anything! I’m excited to have her working with me – already we have a ton of fun and exciting things coming your way!

p.s. Wait – what happened to Cathy you say? Little did I know, Cathy was in the midst of working on her PhD that she had put on hold while she was taking care of her family! After much thought, she decided the time was right to finish up her projects to complete her degree. Although I miss Cathy greatly, Kristyn appeared just in the nick of time to save me from getting swallowed up in my grief

Stearns {San Diego Family Photographer}

Meet the Stearns family. These girls just had their birthdays in March, so we celebrated with a family session! Annabelle, who just turned 4, was a wonderful host when I arrived! She showed me the “cave” in their gorgeous backyard and some of the yummy vegetables that she is helping to grow. Sunny, who is typically shy, just turned 2 and wanted to do everything her big sister did! She followed us around and showed me her Peter Rabbit stuffed animal- this rabbit was literally as big as she was! They even wanted to pose with their chickens for me! I had so much fun photographing this family and look forward to visiting with them again soon!

Trends seem to explode with more umph than ever before. With the speed at which information now travels via social sites like Facebook and Pinterest, the arrival of a trend can happen overnight – literally! People constantly pinning and re-pinning and then facebook-ing a cute idea they saw from someone across the country can turn into a trend frenzy!

One of the hottest wedding trends out there right now is funky fun save the dates. The announcement of your engagement and your finally decided upon wedding date is big deal and people go to great lengths to make sure their announcement is unlike any other.

Save the dates have taken a turn in the last decade; instead of a bland 3-liner card with names, dates and a location, we now have brightly colored, differently textured announcements with a twist! Couples can choose anything from vintage-inspired elegance to multi-fonted infographics listing their entire timeline from the moment they met up to the proposal (another hot trend running now).

With international companies like Minted and Wedding Paper Divas, anyone can find a save the date to fit any style or photo with an easy ordering process. And with great locals like LOL Letterpress and Rock Paper Scissors, you can get a wonderful hands-on experience with personalization & elegant touches.

The greatest thing about the newly renovated save the date wedding invite industry is the customization now available to the consumer. Sure, before you could go into a shop, look at a HUGE binder of cards with filigree type-face, linen papers, creamy envelopes with metallic inks and choose what you wanted…but in todays market, you can choose from a multitude of styles, designs and colors. People have come to show a sense of humor through their save the dates, and really show off their couple personality, and isn’t that what its all about? Photographing this California family was a blast!This little monkey just turned 2 years old, no terrible two’s in sight, but she was quite the ball of energy…constantly on the go! It was absolutely perfect that we were at a playground where she could swing and slide to hear heart’s content!

The outfits were fantastic coordination on mom’s part with tiny bits of electric green on everyone! Can you find everyone’s bit of green?

This little one is definitely a daddy’s girl, but you can see how much of a mommy’s girl she is too! So much love and joy came through in our time together, I was so glad to capture this milestone in their lives! Happy Birthday, Lyla monkey!

Love Throughout Life {San Diego Weddings}

Can we talk about love for a minute?

This extended family is near and dear to my heart, and I’m so glad that they called me the night before these two lovebirds got hitched! This lovely gentleman lost his first wife not too long ago and I felt honored that I was able to photograph her a few years before she passed on. A lovely couple who were responsible for a fantastic family! Little did I know that Paul had another beautiful woman waltz into his life at just the right time!

Sandy and Paul had a civil wedding with some of their closest family members and I was honored to be there celebrating right along side them. Look how amazingly happy and in love they are in these photos. They required less direction with posing and looking naturally in love than a lot of couples I’ve worked with! Congratulations Sandy and Paul on your new life together!
